Manufacturing’s decline continues last year

The city’s industrial output continued contracting last year.

The index of industrial production averaged 63.3 points, or 1.2 percent less than in 2012, the Statistics and Census Service says.

The index has been dropping since the end of 2003, when it peaked at 175.1 points.

Last year’s biggest declines were in clothing and electricity.

Among the few industries that increased output was food and drink, buoyed by demand for souvenir foods.
