Annual inflation rate hits 5.5 percent

The average Composite Consumer Price Index (CPI) was at 123.48 for the whole of 2013, and the inflation rate for 2013 stood at 5.5 percent, according to figures released yesterday by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). In 2013, a significant increase was observed in the price index of Housing & Fuels (+9.95%); Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages (+6.63%); and Health (+6.48%), while the price index of Communication and Education decreased by 2.30% and 1.40% respectively. Moreover, the average CPI-A (123.59) and CPI-B (123.94) increased by 6.09% and 5.38% year-on-year. Meanwhile, the Composite CPI for December 2013 was 126.88, increasing by 5.72 percent year-on-year, DSEC said.
