Regulations cut October’s package tourist numbers

A law meant to curb fee-free package tours has led to a reduction in the number of package tourists that visited Macau in October.

The Statistics and Census Service says 716,867 package tourists visited in October, 11.5 percent fewer than a year before.

The number of package tourists from the mainland fell by 10.6 percent.

The average hotel occupancy rate was 82.9 percent in October, 1.5 percentage points more than a year before.

The average occupancy rate was 82 percent to October 31, 0.9 percentage point less than in the same period last year.
