Q3 retail sales jump by 23 pct to MOP15.55 bln

The value of retail sales was MOP15.55 billion (US$1.95 billion) the third quarter of this year, 2 percent less than in the second quarter but 23 percent more than a year earlier, according to the Statistics and Census Service.

Sales of watches, clocks and jewellery alone amounted to MOP4.49 billion, 27 percent more than a year earlier.

Sales of communication equipment rose by 50 percent and sales of leather goods rose by 29 percent.

About 35 percent of retailers expect sales volume to increase in the fourth quarter and 43 percent expect it to be steady.
