Bulk of homes being built are in high-rise blocks

Seventy-four private housing projects with about 8,830 flats were under construction in the third quarter of this year, the Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau says.

The bureau says about 90 percent of the new flats will be in high-rise blocks and should be ready for habitation in three years.

Almost three-quarters of the dwellings will be one-bedroom or two-bedroom flats, mostly on the peninsula.

In the third quarter, the bureau issued occupancy permits for six projects with 76 flats. Another 241 housing projects with about 28,000 homes were awaiting government approval.
