988 companies registered in Macau in Q1

A total of 988 new companies have been registered in Macau in the first quarter of this year, increasing by 12.1 percent over 2012, according to figures released yesterday by the city’s Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). From January to March, registered capital value of the new companies dropped by 22.4 percent to MOP154 million (19.27 million U.S. dollars), with capital from Macau, the Chinese mainland and Portugal totaling MOP70 million (8.76 million U. S. dollars), MOP36 million (4.5 million U.S. dollars) and MOP25 million (3.13 million U.S. dollars) respectively, the figures indicated. In the first quarter of 2013, there were 129 companies in dissolution and the value of registered capital mounted to MOP188 million (23.52 million U.S. dollars), of which registered capital of 56 Wholesale and Retail companies in dissolution accounted for 29.7 percent, according to the DSEC.  At the end of the first quarter of 2013, number of registered companies totaled 40,647, an increase of 3,220 from a year earlier.
