The 18th annual Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF) wrapped up yesterday, having received 116,000 visitors and with 98 protocols signed. The four-day fair witnessed a 12 percent increase in visitors.
Yesterday’s fair was open to the public. Ms. Cheung, a local housewife, told the Times that she had bought food and snacks into the SMEs Pavilison and had spent MOP200. “I also came last Friday. But I could not carry everything at once, so I came again today (yesterday). Things sell cheap here.”
A young couple, Mr. and Mrs. Tai, spent MOP800 purchasing medicinal herbs. They felt that Taiwanese snacks were more plentiful during this year’s event.
A Portugese couple,  Mr. and Mrs. Palha, who live in Macau, were visiting MIF for the first time. “It’s huge. We need more time to see this. Next year we will come earlier. Booths are closing, many products are discounted by 50 percent.”
The 18th MIF had more than 1,900 booths. Exhibitors came from 50 countries and regions. More than 2,000 business matching sessions were arranged during the event and 98 protocols were reached.
The next MIF will be held from Oct. 23 to 26 in 2014, according to the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).
