The government will begin this month giving out refunds of up to MOP12,000 (US$1,500) to each of about 100,000 taxpayers.

The Financial Services Bureau says the government will refund 60 percent of the salaries tax they paid for 2012.

The bureau estimates that the government will give back MOP390 million of the salaries tax it collected for 2012.

Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On said in his Policy Address for 2013 that taxpayers would be refunded up to 60 percent of their salaries tax for 2012, with a view to lessening the financial burden on middle-income earners.
