Macau imported MOP1.46 billion (US$182.9 million) worth of wine last year, 2 per cent more than the year before, Rádio Macau has reported.
The Portuguese-language station said MOP1.13 billion worth were French wines, 3 per cent more.
The value of wines imported from Australia rose by 44 per cent to MOP116 million, while the value of wines imported from Portugal fell by 4 four per cent to MOP58.5 million.
Institute for Tourism Studies food and beverage manager Hugo Bandeira told the radio station: “Most people that choose wines to import to Macau have limited knowledge about Portuguese wines. So it’s natural that they prefer wines from Australia or France over the Portuguese.”
