Public bus operator Reolian is not ruling the possibility of asking the government for more money to make up for expected losses this year. However that would have no impact on bus fees, the Transport Bureau (DSAT) stressed.

Its true that in August we had losses because we had to deal with an unexpected 30 percent increase in wage costs. But before we consider that possibility [applying for a service charge raise] we need better data, said Rigaud.

All three public bus operators have the right to apply for an increase in the service charge. If we receive any application, the government will have to take into consideration inflation, average salary of operators staff and the cost of fuel, she explained.
Any increase granted to Reolian would not include the other two operators, TCM and Transmac. Asked if TCM would also apply for a service charge raise, the company declined to comment. MDTimes contacted Transmac but received no reply.
