Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd deputy chairman Francis Lui Yiu Tung says he is confident the gaming operator will get enough live gaming tables for the upcoming phases of its Galaxy Macau casino resort, in Cotai.

“We have confidence that we will have a fair amount of tables for us to be able to justify our investments,” Mr Lui told Macau Business in an exclusive interview published in our March issue.

According to figures previously released, Galaxy Macau’s phase two will have around 500 live gaming tables, phase three around 600 and phase four another 400.

The government has said that, under the 3-percent average annual growth cap enacted this year, only around 2,000 additional tables will be made available until 2023.

“We said it is the capacity we are able to host. We didn’t say we are going to have all those tables. It very much depends on the government,” Mr Lui noted.

He added that currently no gaming operator in Macau is really short of tables, but stressed the tables could be more evenly distributed among the six concessionaries.

Mr Lui said he has “confidence that the government will continue to do positive things to make the industry healthier and more sustainable.

“If not, I would not spend HK$50 billion [US$6.4 billion] in Macau,” he said, in a reference to the tentative aggregate budget for Galaxy Macau’s phases three and four.
