June package tourists decrease 17.5 pct to 707,000

About 707,000 package tourists visited Macau last month, 17.5 per cent fewer than a year earlier, official data show.

The Statistics and Census Service attributes the decrease in part to the outbreak of the potentially deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome in South Korea deterring South Koreans from travelling.

The number of South Korean package tourists visiting Macau fell by 42.2 per cent to about.16,400.

About 565,900 mainland Chinese came to Macau on package tours, 16.7 per cent fewer than a year earlier.
