Macau’s economic growth is reflected in local job market, and with the post-Chinese New Year traditional job-changing season, most corporate employers are raising salaries at this time in an effort to retain staff. According to our statistics, about 77 percent of employees received a 5-10 percent raise in pay last year, about 9 percent of employees received a raise of 10-15 percent and about 11 percent of employees enjoyed an increase of even more than 15 percent. The median monthly earnings of all employed persons rose to MOP10,000 in the third quarter of last year. The median monthly employment earnings of local residents rose to MOP11,000.

According to our survey, as a benefit of economic growth, more than 60 percent of employed persons received bonuses of more than one month’s salary. In some industry sectors, such as hotels, bonuses of even more than 4 or 5 month’s salary by the year before last, and pay raises of no less than 5-8 percent are expected, according to Macao Daily News. Facing a lack of manpower in the F&B sector and inflation, corporations aim to retain staff by raising salaries. As a result, double pay and salaries rose by 4 percent last year, according to Macao Daily News.

According to our statistics, the average salary of a housekeeping supervisor is $14,000 to $18,000, the average salary of a revenue management / reservation manager is $26,000 to $42,000, the average salary of an assistant housekeeping manager is $23,000 to $27,000, the average salary of a senior sales and marketing manager is $40,000 to $55,000, the average salary of a F&B manager is $26,000 to $34,000.

In the gaming industry, with growth in revenues, most leading enterprises have announced the good news of pay raises of up to 5 percent.  According to our statistics, the average salary of an assistant casino marketing manager is $26,000 to $32,000, the average salary of a senior casino marketing manager is $40,000 to $55,000, the average salary of a slot marketing manager is $26,000 to $33,000, the average salary of a table gaming supervisor is $18,000 to $22,000, and the average salary of an assistant VIP service manager is $28,000 to $35,000.

For the retail industry, with more international brands arriving in Macau, the situation in the local labor market is intense. To share the fruitful results of recent success in sales with staff, employers are paying double salaries at the end of the year, and pay raises will be considered after the Chinese New Year. Moreover, some employers will give gifts to thank staff for their contribution. Our statistics show that with 3-5 years work experience, the average senior sales person receives a salary of $20,000, the average salary of a sales supervisor is $22,000, and the average salary of an assistant sales manager is $26,000.

In the construction industry, since there are many infrastructure projects slated to start soon, which includes the light rail project, land reclamation project and others, industry prospects are bright, and it is believed that salaries will rise in the future, especially for professionals. According to the Statistics and Census Service, the average daily salary of construct workers is $569, with 4 percent raises quarterly. According to our statistics, the average salary of both site managers with over 12 years work experience and project managers with over 15 years is $40,000.

The Statistics and Census Service also reports that the average salary of full time employees in 25 local banks is $20,000, and the average salary of senior management even more than $40,760. The total number of job vacancies for clerks has increased 6.8 percent this year, with technicians’ and professionals’ salaries increasing by 10.9 percent annually. For recruitment, over 50 percent of the positions require related working experience and tertiary education, and over 80 percent of the positions require that candidates speak Cantonese, Mandarin and English fluently.

There is a lack of manpower in the accounting sector, with each of the big four accounting firms reporting 30 job vacancies at this time. However, the total number of qualified graduates from local universities totals only about 80 each year. Furthermore, there is lack of experienced accountants in Macau, with the estimated annual demand at about 800 people, according to Macao Daily News. According to our statistics, with 3-5 years work experience, 50 percent of accounting and finance staff receive an average salary of is $15,000, with 25 percent of staff receiving a salary of $20,000.

A recent survey conducted by the Information Technology Association found that it is difficult to recruit local system administrators, software developer/testers, business analysts and software engineers. Thirty percent of respondents will be paid $15,000 to $20,000 for the post of technician. The average salary of professionals is $20,000 to $25,000, with salary of senior management as high as $40,000 to $50,000.

According to our statistics, there are pay raises in different industry sectors in Macau, particularly accounting, gaming, hotel, retail, and information technology. Although the global economy downturn may continue to be affected by the European debt crisis, fortunately Macau has gained stable economic growth. The local job market, especially in the hotel, gaming and luxury retail sectors, can benefit from such a policy in order to maintain high economic growth. These sectors will see greater manpower demands in the future.

In conclusion, we highly appreciate participant’s contribution to Macau 1st salary survey. In addition to the preview version, Macau job seekers can register with hello-jobs.com as a member for free and check out full detailed salary information for all job categories and career levels.
